At the beginning of the month I was contacted by Valene (whose wedding I’m shooting this summer!) to photograph her nephew Brady’s 1st birthday party. For some photographers the prospect of photographing a child’s birthday party doesn’t conjure the same enthusiasm as a high-fashion photo shoot, but it’s always fun to be part of such a memorable occasion for a family. Although one-year-olds don’t understand the concept of birthday they’re always excited to see all the decorations and excitement occurring. There are always wonderful opportunities for pictures and it feels nice to know I created the images that he’ll fondly remember (I hope!) for the rest of his life. Here are a few of my favourite shots from the day. There were so many to choose from.

Summer has fully departed. Although freezing when I wake up in the morning doesn’t make me happy, seeing all the wonderful colours of the trees at this time of the year is one of the good parts of Fall (it might be the only good part). Obviously, as a photographer these bright colors cannot go unrecorded! Bryna and Jason contacted me for a portrait session and I recommended a walk in the park where we could get some nice shots with the Autumn leaves as a backdrop. Here are some shots from our session:

Chances are if you’re reading this you’ve been to my site, here (in case you haven’t). If you’ve been to my site you may have noticed a few pictures of Madison, a one year old I’ve had the pleasure of photographing throughout her first year joining us in the world. Madison really lights up my day whenever I see her – I guess it’s hard to put into words but her little, innocent life is really precious. It’s amazing to see her learning new things and discovering little pieces of existence and it just seems to make me feel at peace to watch her.

Also, I really like playing with her toys… because they make really cool things for babies these days!

Here are some pics from the big day:

Last week I had my first pet photoshoot with Angie, a lab/husky mix. It went really well and I got to try a few things I had thought of. Taking pictures of animals is obviously much more trying than with a human subject because you can’t direct them… although Angie was much better trained than a few children I’ve met! She enjoyed the attention (and the treats) and we ended up with some pretty nice shots!

Hey everyone.  Just to let you know I’ve now put up a link to my RSS feed.  I know a lot of people don’t use RSS – but they should.  RSS stands for “really simple syndication” and it’s used by people who create content on the web to let people who choose to subscribe to their updates know that they’ve put up new content.  It’s like an e-mail account for all the websites you like.  When a site you subscribe to puts something new up your reader will tell you rather than you having to keep checking that site.

So, if you’re interested in being updated on my adventures in the realm of photography, simply click the link on the top right that says “subscribe.”

P.S.  I find that Google Reader is the easiest to use.

Hey everyone… this is my first post on my blog to celebrate the launch of my official website! [Edit: which is http://www.marlonphotography.net just in case you stumbled upon here]  I’m very excited to have my site up.  People have been calling me up for jobs and I’m very anxious to keep producing great images!  This week I should have some more stuff up, including an RSS link for those interested in following my exciting photographical adventures.

I have a bunch of pet photography jobs coming up which should be exciting because I’ve only shot (er, photographed) my girlfriend’s cat, Mittens before.  Have faith in me, though – the pics will be awesome!

And since this is a photography blog I might as well leave you with an image… so… here’s Madison drumming on a ceramic duck (I was babysitting her today).
